Car Enthusiasts help Salvation Army bring Christmas cheer!
The Vancouver Island Mustang Association and the Canadian Classic
Chevelles & Beaumonts car club held a Toy Run on Sunday, September
24 to benefit The Salvation Army's annual Christmas toy drive.
Members of the clubs cruised their vehicles from Victoria to Sidney
where they gathered at the Aviation Museum to showcase over 100
extraordinary vehicles. They car owners were met by The Salvation
Army Community & Family Services staff that served hot dogs and
coffee. All participants brought toys to the park to be distributed
by The Salvation Army during their Christmas campaign.
"It was a tremendous event", says Captain Lorraine Burry of The
Salvation Army. "These car owners have supported us each fall with
this event. It is a great opportunity to help those less fortunate.
It's also a great chance to see all of the classic automobiles".
Over 400 toys were received, along with financial donations. In 2005,
The Salvation Army gave out more than 6000 new toys to children in the
Greater Victoria area. This was possible thanks to organizations like
the Vancouver Island Mustang Association and the Canadian Classic
Chevelles and Beaumonts.
The Salvation Army is extremely busy during the Christmas season as we
bring help and support to those who need it most. A large part of our
Christmas program is our Toy Shop, where parents are given the opportunity
to choose new toys to give to their children at Christmas. Families
qualifying for Christmas assistance come to us through the Greater
Victoria Christmas Bureau. The Salvation Army benefits greatly from
the interest and partnership of the many community organizations that
support us with toy drives. If you would like to learn about
opportunities to help, then please call 250.386.8521.
