Thank you Victoria and Our Partners
The Salvation Army Community & Family Services of Greater Victoria
had a busy Christmas season in 2007. More than 1200 households were
helped with food, toys, and clothing during this past Christmas.
Families were provided with turkeys and the trimmings for Christmas
dinner; groceries for the days immediately following Christmas; and
presents for children 18 and under.
“We expected the numbers to be about the same this year”, says Captain
Juan Burry. “The last two years our numbers have leveled at around
1300-1400 households. With the continued support of community groups,
businesses, and individual donors, we were able to meet the
expected demand.”
While donations to the Christmas kettles were down from last year,
receipted donations from local businesses and walk-in donors were
up significantly from 2006. Donations of toys, food and clothing
remained consistent with recent years. Also, more than 50 local
businesses and individuals participated in the Adopt-a-Family program.
Through this program, donors took responsibility for providing an
entire Christmas hamper for an assigned family.
If you want to be part of Adopt-a-Family, please contact
Michelle (michelle@salvationarmycfs.com).
The total value of the assistance given out by The Salvation Army this
Christmas was over $250,000.00. The Salvation Army could not undertake
this responsibility without the generous support of local businesses,
organizations, and other charities. We would like to acknowledge the
generous support, through financial or in-kind donations, of the
