Toy Run 2008
On Sunday, September 21, the Vancouver Island Mustang Association
and the Canadian Classic Chevelles & Beaumonts held its annual Toy
Run to benefit The Salvation Army’s Christmas toy drive. Members
of the Vancouver Island Mustang Association cruised their vehicles
around Victoria, ending up at Beaver Lake Park.

Backpacks for Kids
Hundreds of children in the Greater Victoria area can't afford the school
supplies they need each September. It's a struggle for many families in our
community just to make ends meet and this is especially true at the start
of a new school year. Next to Christmas time, early September causes the
greatest financial strain for families with school-aged children.

Thank you Victoria and Our Partners
The Salvation Army Community & Family Services of Greater Victoria
had a busy Christmas season in 2007. More than 1300 households were
helped with food, toys, and clothing during this past Christmas.
Families were provided with turkeys and the trimmings for Christmas
dinner; groceries for the days immediately following Christmas; and
presents for children 18 and under.

Christmas is coming soon at The Salvation Army
On Sunday, September 23, the Vancouver Island Mustang Association
held its annual Toy Run to benefit The Salvation Army’s Christmas toy drive.
Members of the Vancouver Island Mustang Association, the Canadian Classic Chevelles & Beaumonts,
and the Vancouver Island Miata Club cruised their vehicles from the University of Victoria
to the Panorama Recreation Centre. There they showcased over 100 extraordinary vehicles.
The car owners were met by The Salvation Army Community & Family Services staff that
served hot dogs and coffee. All participants brought toys to be distributed by The
Salvation Army during their Christmas campaign.

Hilary Duff supports The Salvation Army
Hilary Duff continued her Dignity Tour in Victoria on August 4, 2007,
the sixth of 12 shows she will play across Canada. Once again, Hilary
asked her fans to bring canned goods to her concert in support of Canadian
Harvest and The Salvation Army. On her past two Canadian tours, Hilary
has raised more than 125,000 pounds of food.

We are experiencing an extreme makeover here at The Salvation Army Community &
Family Services. Our website has undergone a makeover that energizes the look,
simplifies navigation and conveys more clearly the services that we offer to
the citizens of Victoria. Also, we have recently added two new staff members to our
team.

Car Enthusiasts help Salvation Army bring Christmas cheer!
The Vancouver Island Mustang Association and the Canadian Classic
Chevelles & Beaumonts car club held a Toy Run on Sunday, September
24 to benefit The Salvation Army's annual Christmas toy drive.
Members of the clubs cruised their vehicles from Victoria to Sidney
where they gathered at the Aviation Museum to showcase over 100
extraordinary vehicles. They car owners were met by The Salvation
Army Community & Family Services staff that served hot dogs and
coffee. All participants brought toys to the park to be distributed
by The Salvation Army during their Christmas campaign.

Indonesia Earthquake (Update 3)
Salvation Army medical teams are continuing to work in the
aftermath of the Java earthquake. The teams - known as
Compassion in Action units - have now moved on to the villages
of Plesedan and Mandungan, near Sleman, and the villages of
Krasaan and Sumberharjo, near Bantul.

Indonesia Earthquake (Update 1)
As the reported death toll following the earthquake which hit the
