Public Relations
The PRD office attends to local Public Relations and fundraising matters for The Salvation Army including media relations, donor relations, receipting of donations, Planned Giving, the Victoria Advisory Board, and special events such as the Annual Luncheon, Annual Golf Tournament, the Naden Band Christmas Concerts, etc.
The office was run as an independent program in Victoria for many years but in 2000 the staff were downsized, the Officers were removed, and direction was taken over by Divisional Headquarters. Some programs (such as the Beacon Bus and Christmas kettles) were reassigned to other Salvation Army centres in Victoria. In 2004 the PRD office moved its location from Caledonia Ave. on the outskirts of the downtown centre to a smaller, more central location in downtown Victoria on Fort St.
Currently, the office is maintained by three staff members: a Public Relations Representative and Special Events Coordinator (Kyla Ferns), a Planned Giving Representative (Carol Barton), and a Donor Relations Representative (Kris Snyder). The office comes under the direction of the Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters PRD office, led by Major Brian Venables.

Sunset Lodge
The Salvation Army Sunset Lodge is a 108-bed complex care facility in Esquimalt, BC. The nature of Sunset Lodge is a friendly, supportive, non-institutional environment, one in which a sense of home is created for its residents and caregivers.
In addition to the complex care facility, The Salvation Army provides a 30-unit rent-geared-to-income facility, Matson Sequoia Lodge (Seniors? Apartments) located at 554 Garrett Place in Esquimalt. The facility includes two apartments that are fully equipped to accommodate physically disabled tenants.
History
The Sunset Lodge location, 952 Arm Street in Esquimalt, has been occumpied by The Salvation Army since 1950. The current estate, described by the Times Colonist in 1971 as a ?handsome building? was purchased for the establishment of a shelter for senior women. The building consisted of three stories and an attic; five spacious bedrooms each with its own dressing-room and bathroom; two dining rooms; a drawing room conservatory; an extensive kitchen with several pantries; plus a downstairs ballroom which included a large stone fireplace and a small stage.
The building was demolished in 1978 to make room for the construction of a 108-bed Extended Care facility, which was opened in 1979. Sunset Lodge was classified as an Intermediate Care facility. A three-storey Dining Tower was officially opened in April 1998.
The Salvation Army officially announced that the mandate of Sunset Lodge was changing and transitioning from an intermediate care facility to a complex care facility in June 2003. The change to a complex care facility added additional services such as care for residents with extended care needs and services for residents with moderate to severe dementia.
