Programs & Services
- We meet people's immediate crisis needs.
- If necessary, we direct them towards a program that will help break the cycle of dependency and help people become happy, healthy citizens of Victoria.
The Counselling Department
The Counselling department seeks to provide timely, professional individual counselling, life skills training, support groups and practical guidance. This service is offered to clients who are facing immediate crisis as well as those requiring short term therapy.
The Emergency Bed Program
Through our partnership with Sleep Country Canada, we are able to get mattresses to individuals and families who are in desperate need.
Emergency Assistance
The Salvation Army is well known for its readiness to give material assistance quickly and compassionately. Such assistance might include food, lodging, clothing, furniture, transportation, medicine, rent, or utilities.
Pro Bono
The objective of the Pro Bono program is to bring together lawyers and the poor in order to eliminate barriers to justice. The program exists to support, co-ordinate, and encourage the delivery of Pro Bono services in the Greater Victoria area through The Salvation Army Stan Hagen Centre for Families. The target group is those persons who are ineligible for legal aid, who meet the required criteria and are in need of assistance with matters of civil law.
The Daily Bread Program
Through partnerships with local businesses we distribute free reduced shelf-life bread on a first-come first-served basis to people who need it.
Spiritual Guidance
Working through something tough spiritually? Our counselling services are not religiously based and sometimes people request spiritual guidance so The Salvation Army will try to help you regardless of your upbringing or personal understanding of religion or Faith. We approach Spiritual Care in a number of ways.
-
We have a prayer box on our front desk. No names required. We will be sure that someone prays for your need.
- Neil Jones is an ordained pastor and has degrees in theology and psychology and has experience as a chaplain. Neil will help you wherever you're at. You can read more about Neil on his website: http://hope23.ca/
- Our Director, Pat Humble is a soldier in The Salvation Army and available for prayer support and Spiritual guidance. If our staff are unable to help with your specific circumstance, we have the resources of nine ordained ministers of The Salvation Army to refer you to as well as connection to other denominational spiritual leaders throughout Victoria.
Referrals
People with varying needs come to the Army because they know the Army will either provide the necessary help directly or will assist them in finding help from other sources. Our employees are well aware of the resources in the Greater Victoria area, including health, welfare, employment, housing, recreation, and other community based services.
