Employment Services

The Employment Services program provides ongoing support to individuals seeking employment. Clients are assisted with job search skills, resumes, interviews, telephone skills, skills analysis and tips on how to keep a job.

Skills training classes are also offered. Some of these courses include:

OFFICE MACHINES & TELEPHONE SKILLS

(1 week)

You'll learn how to operate and troubleshoot office machines. The telephone is the most powerful sales instrument. You'll learn how to be a valued employee with our "telephone" techniques program.

OFFICE ADMINISTRATION

(2 weeks)

Most businesses have only a few employees. You may be asked to look after the business when your employer is away; you may even get a promotion and this means you'll be in charge of others. This workshop will help you prepare to manage an office so that you'll avoid the mistakes others make when they're put in charge. You'll learn Professional Business Skills in this workshop.

CASH REGISTER TRAINING

(1 week)

You'll find it easy to operate a cash register by taking our course. You'll also learn: how to help customers who change their minds about buying an item; how to make customers want to come back to the store; and to protect yourself against "con artists".

CUSTOMER SERVICE & SALES TRAINING

(2 weeks)

Customers are most important to every business. You'll be able to use these "easy to learn" sales skills in any job you have, whether it's a store, office, or worksite. With these skills, you'll impress your employer and keep your customers happy.

WORKPLACE COMMUNICATION SKILLS

(2 weeks)

This course is all about "Interpersonal Relationships" - how to get along with people whether they're pleasant or not. Your success at work with staff and customers depends on how well you can interact with people and also get your ideas across.

This is a "fun" hands-on workshop where you'll learn new ways of dealing with difficult people; how to be a good team worker; how to become a valued employee so your employer will want to keep you on the staff.

EMPLOYMENT SUCCESS STRATEGIES

(1 week)

To keep a job, you've got to show your employer how valuable you really are to the business. This workshop will help you plan for successful employment. These methods have worked over the years and you'll learn them in one week!

WHMIS

(1/2 day)

The Workplace Hazardous Material Information System course is for anyone: workers in a factory, hotel, janitorial company, office - or even if you are working at home. We all use chemicals everyday. This course is "easy" and enjoyable - you'll learn a lot to keep you safe. Employers who work directly with chemicals (hotels, janitorial companies, factories) need their employees to take this course.

Our Employment Services Coordinator has worked with the Workers Compensation Board and holds a Master's degree in Education. For more information about our Employment Skills Training programs please contact Neil.
